What an outrageous faux pas.

Mr. Brogden you are screwed and super super kudos to Bob Carr for the following slap-in-the-face

- “My wife Helena has higher qualifications and a more substantial career than this featherweight of mediocrity will ever have.”

I salute you sir.

Saw NIN. Absolutely awesome.
I was completely blown away by the raw energy of the whole thing. Mr Reznor was great and the current touring lineup was likewise.

ZOMBIES! August 18, 2005

I’ll just give you the end part…

Slices of pizza soared through the window, landing on the floor of the ambulance.
“Don’t touch it!” I commanded my fellow back-of-ambulance-rider. I knew it had zombie in it.

Unfortunately I didn’t tell the driver of our vehicle until it was too late.

“Did you eat the pizza?” I asked
“Yes.” she replied meekly.
“Are you becoming a zombie?”
“I think so.”
“Right.”

I don’t know how to drive a truck August 16, 2005

Posted by andy in : life , 8 comments

The thought occurred the other day, as I walked down Mowbray Road toward the train, that there are no manuals available that inform the individual on how best to drive a truck.

What if I needed to drive a truck and I couldn’t do it?

!!

If most of the people on the earth died, and I was one of the last survivors and I NEEDED to drive a truck, what would I do? Teaching myself how to drive a truck could be dangerous. They have a couple of different gear/clutch mechanisms, about 3 different brakes and over a dozen horns, some quite loud.

What if I used the duck horn erroneously and failed to scare the elephant crossing my path? Minced elephant? Or minced truck (and hence trucker-burgers)? Would it make a difference if it were Indian or African? What would it be doing in the Australian outback (what would I be doing in the outback)? Would it know how many friends to call if I asked it to replace a lightbulb?

Manuals! They certainly do save us from a LOT of problems.

And it was tasty too. It’s just some Perch with Pesto and salad. But man it was good.

So I finally had my chat with my honours supervisor.
The less interesting part of the conversation was about statistical language technology and my honours thesis.

The more interesting part of my chat was about babies and how they happen when you’re gay.

It turns out that the answer is “with difficulty” and at least a small portion of that is thanks to my friend and yours, John Howard…

Podcasts everywhere!!

All of a sudden, all I see are podcasts.

The good thing about that being that one of my favourite things that I never listen to is available from the interweb.

Triple J’s afternoon program, Hack.

Really good. I was quite surprised actually.

I was kind of expecting it to be just an another ultra-violent romp full of gratuitous nudity and the beating of people, but stylish.

Turns out it was a lot better than I expected. Visually it is fantastic. Really really comic book style. Some of the shots are just awesome. Really really well composed. I couldn’t get over how good it looked. When I picture it in my memory it IS framed as shots in a comic book. It’s kind wierd.

I’m a sucker for movies with a background monologue, and this one had it just right. The dialogue was nicely cliched, awkward and just cool.

All in all, it was much better than I thought it would be.
Damn fine.
