Revolution September 22, 2005
Posted by andy in : playa , trackbackI tried not to mention this, since I have a habit of being a Nintendo fanboy, but…
…
How great does the Revolution look now?
I mean, it can play all the old Nintendo games AND it has a cool wireless detecty controller thingamer. You don’t need to buy a light-gun to play Duck Hunt, you can use the new controller.
There is an excellent article on this that was linked from Penny Arcade and I think that the arguments made in it regarding Nintendo’s business strategy are pretty sound. Basically they HAVE to innovate, they can’t compete in any other way. It’s just the way the company is run.
Yay Nintendo and all that! Woooo!

You just KNOW it’s gonna work with your DS as well, don’t you
That lost garden site has a lot of interesting essays, I RSS-ed it a few days after it opened for business, the guys got smarts methinks.
I told Jen about the controller and she said she’d probably even play games using it. YAY, have to buy one now…
I just love the idea of playing racing games by holding it like a steering wheel - MarioKart Revolution will hopepully put the ‘hops’ back in - just pull the controller up.
My only worry is that if I shift on the couch, I’ll go spinning into the dirt :S
I do have high hopes that it and the DS will play well together.
One thing I hated about my GBA is that I had to buy a little connector to plug it into the GC (which I thus never did). The DS should just work.
I am getting quite excited about the new Nintendo. I think this time I won’t even bother to fork out for the new PS (which I did last time while I waited for the GC).
The whole control scheme for the Revolution (lacks a good two letter acronym - NR?) just looks fantastic. The DS controls surprisingly well with the stylus for Mario. Yoshi is a great tech demo, but lacks depth (which is a pity). Metroid plays really smoothly with the stylus. It’s weird but it works.
Incidentally, did you end up winning that DS in the competition? I voted for you.
