I hate internet and those who provide it! June 23, 2005

I am moving house, which is irritating enough at the best of times (and a topic of which an entire post could be created for your interest and delectation - perhaps as an aid to sleep or somesuch).

In moving house one has to go through the tedious process of communing with the providers of all life’s essentials, requesting the termination of existing services, the creation of new services and handing over the GDP of small African nations for the privelige.

Telstra will undoubtedly charge about $50 for granting me the ability to commune over ‘the wire’ with those outside the range of my dulcet tones. Energy Australia will possibly charge me nothing for their energy differential and di-hydrogen monoxide supply. The gas people (who have unbeknownst to them been affording my apartment with unlimited gaseous hydrocarbons for free up until now) will finally have to be paid some monies from my lazily earned dollars.

But the icing on this cake will have to be Exetel, my current internet provider. In order to transfer my internet I will have to pay $210! If I may descend into profanity for a moment, WHAT THE FUCK?

The nasty little man on the other end of the phone sounded almost gleeful when he stated in no uncertain terms that the act of transferring my internet to a new location was actually akin to terminating my contract early, disconnecting my internet and then starting a new contract with its own connection fee. I say again, WHAT THE FUCK?

Now I understand that this cost is actually being passed on from Telstra who are the cause of this scenario. I get all of that. But the nasty little man on the telephone didn’t tell me this. I had to go and find out for myself. He just said that was the charge and made no effort to explain that it was not in fact their fault that this would be so painful for me.

So now I hate Exetel. And I hate them all the more because even charging me $210 they will STILL be the cheapest option for me and I will pay them their fucking $210, cash-collectors as they are for Telstra.

God I hate Telstra. Christie was right. We shouldn’t have bothered with this ‘internet’.

then put your money where your mouth is! if you just got the cheapest thing around, you’d be driving to work in an imported car wearing clothes from a sweatshop eating mcdonalds for breakfast…

is there some way of getting internet that doesn’t opress anyone?

Maybe I was a bit strong there… but what i mean is show people that customer service & care count. Show Exetel why you are leaving and show them that you are willing to pay more for good customer service.

Well, I probably should have. If I were Christie I might at least have penned a stern letter.
As it happens, it’s all over now.
I’m more concerned about comments on old posts. What are you doing here? :)
